PENDER COUNTY — As hurricane season is underway in 2025, a disaster resource fair is being hosted in a neighboring county to prepare residents ahead in the event of a storm.

On June 7, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Pender Long Term Recovery Group will hold its annual Disaster Preparedness Expo at Burgaw Middle School Gym, 500 Wright St.

“Our goal is to build a more informed, prepared, and resilient Pender County,” Director of the PCLTRG Gio Simpson said in a release. “The Disaster Preparedness Expo is a great way for residents to engage with the organizations that serve them in times of crisis—and to take proactive steps in planning for the unexpected.

Areas the public will be abreast of include:

  • Connecting with emergency response professionals, local nonprofits, government agencies, and disaster relief organizations
  • Learning about disaster preparedness plans, emergency kits, and evacuation strategies
  • Receiving educational materials and resources for protecting homes and families

The public is encouraged to attend for free; learn more here.
