WILMINGTON — A nonprofit that places service dogs with individuals in need will see a boost in funds due to one sandwich chain’s philanthropic outreach.

In March, Jersey Mike’s customers had the option to round their purchase to the nearest dollar or donate additional funds to Wilmington nonprofit paws4people. Roughly 18 sandwich shops in the Wilmington area participated and on March 26 the company donated all of its sales to the organization as well.

Cumulatively, these efforts raised $167,599.37.

Paws4people’s mission is to place assistance dogs with veterans and civilians living with mental and behavioral health challenges, children living with special needs and sexual trauma survivors.

The fundraiser was part of Jersey Mike’s Subs annual Month of Giving in March across North America, which raised more than $30 million to help more than 200 local charities. Having begun 15 years ago, this year’s event exceeded last year’s campaign by $25 million; to date, Jersey Mike’s has raised $143 million for local charities.
