WILMINGTON — Each spring community members come together to offer volunteer services across New Hanover County to fulfill projects that local schools, government organizations and nonprofits submit for help.

Applications are now open for the April 20, 2024 for project needs. Hosted by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, Work on Wilmington takes place over four hours with hundreds of volunteers going out into the area to help with painting, landscaping or cleaning up places in need.

Dangerous work, such as roofing repairs, projects that use of scaffolding, heavy sophisticated power tools, and excavation equipment, are not considered.

The event also raises funds for area nonprofits. According to the chamber, the 2023 event raised more than $85,000 that went to Access of Wilmington, DREAMS Center of Arts Education, and Nourish NC.

The 2024 date will coincide with Earth Day. The chamber said it will become the “greenest and most impactful day yet” in a press release.

“Projects that have tangible benefits for the community and would be impossible
without the help of Work on Wilmington volunteers are highly encouraged,” it continued.

Applications are open until Oct. 6.
