WILMINGTON — Network service provider UScellular has announced they will be donating $32k to the Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern North Carolina.

The donation is a part of a $1 million grant UScellular will donate to 19 Boys and Girls clubs around the country. The funding has been distributed for nine years to help provide meaningful educational opportunities for local youth.

Throughout 2022, UScellular’s support gave 147,000 youth across the country access to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities and learning. Funds from the grant were used for the creation of STEM labs, hands-on interactive programming and STEM curriculum training for Club leaders.

“Through our partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern North Carolina, we have a pathway to provide local youth with the tools, resources and experiences to explore a career in a STEM field and help shape their future opportunities,” Jeremy Taylor, director of retail sales and operations for UScellular in eastern North Carolina, said in a press release.

The release added that 48% of youth in grades 4-12 became more curious about pursuing a STEM education and career, according to Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth Outcomes survey.

As well, UScellular has has donated 3,300-plus hotspots and service to more than 40 Boys & Girls Clubs, including the southeastern North Carolina local chapter. It equals $3.2 million in services provided.
