Laney football posts shutout, Imeek Watkins scores four times in win

The Laney defense posted its second straight shutout as the Bucs put up points early and often in a 46-0 victory at home against South Brunswick.

Imeek Watkins rushed for 180 yards and four touchdowns in the first half, while Jason Billingslea added two scores in the 46-point onslaught during the opening 24 minutes of play.

Sophomore quarterback Sherod Sidbury scampered into the end zone from 19 yards out to give Laney an early 7-0 lead. Watkins scored twice in the opening frame to make it 19-0 after the first period.

The Bucs were never really tested in the affair, improving to 2-0 in conference and 5-2 overall. Laney has now won four straight heading into a pair of important divisional games beginning with a trip to Legion Stadium for a date with New Hanover (1-0, 3-3) on Friday, Oct. 7.
