Wilmington Christian Academy golfers qualify for North Carolina Amateur Championship

A sectional qualifier for the 56th North Carolina Amateur Championship was hosted by Pine Valley Country Club in Wilmington on Monday, with several local players shooting rounds that allow a trip to the state championship.

The cut line fell at an even par 72 on the 6,420-yard layout. Nine players advanced to the amateur championship, which will be played June 16-19, 2016 at Governors Club in Chapel Hill.

Three golfers either currently attending or recently graduated from Wilmington Christian Academy made the cut. East Carolina signee Blake Taylor posted low medalist honors after hitting a six-under-par 66 to lead the local group. Austin Inman (UNCW/WCA ’14) was four shots off the pace with a two-under 70, while Joey Funderberg closed the 18-hole event at even-par.

Taylor sank six birdies during the front nine and dropped as far as eight under par before double bogeying the 18th hole. He strung together three consecutive birdies heading into the turn at six-under.

Ross Robison (UNCW/Cape Fear Academy) and Jackson Tyler (New Hanover) were among those competing on Monday to miss the cut.
