No. 4 Hoggard saw its season come to an end Saturday night in Raleigh as top-seeded Broughton handed the Vikings a 3-1 setback in the quarterfinals of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs.
Broughton (20-0) advances to the semifinals and is now one win away from a state championship appearance.
Both teams traded games to start the match before the Caps cruised to a third set 25-9 win to gain momentum, but Hoggard responded with their season on the line and led by six midway through the final frame until Broughton rallied to pull out the 27-25 victory to move on in the tournament.
The Lady Vikes finished the season 22-3 as the defending Mideastern Conference Champions with a perfect 12-0 mark in league play and unbeaten 10-0 on their home floor.

Cape Fear Academy fell 5-0 to St. David’s School in the finals of the NCISAA 2A Tournament on Saturday.
The Hurricanes finished a great year with key contributions from Madison Graham, PJ Middleton, Laila Goudarzi, Katherine Drew Marapese, Alyx Copley and Lila Das.
