Podcast Perspectives: Wilmington advocate on the deeper roots of challenges in Covid-era remote education [Free]

On this episode, we talk with community activist and children’s advocate Rebecca Trammel, who has founded and helped run numerous local groups, including Champions for Compassion, Community Conversations, and others.

We start this conversation with Trammel’s work helping to identify and fill gaps that have been highlighted by the New Hanover County Schools district.

These aren’t new problems, but the pandemic has brought more attention to those children who have been left behind — students from low-income families, students of color, students with cognitive or emotional challenges, students whose first language isn’t English.

Trammel has worked to tackle these issues, whether it’s organizing getting food to children who relied on school lunches before the pandemic or taking on the larger issues of systemic racism that has set up some of these children to fail.
