NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The county is seeking artists to participate in its annual Airlie Gardens exhibit.
Individuals or teams of artists interested in decorating, painting, and adorning one of 10 oversized fiberglass turtles for the gardens’ newest art exhibit, Turtley Awesome, can apply by April 9 to participate.
Designs will be selected based on creativity, craftsmanship, use of materials, outdoor sustainability, durability and the ability to appeal to all age groups.
“This new outdoor exhibit will give artists an opportunity to capture the beauty of turtles and share their interpretation with Garden visitors” Guest Services Manager Jodi Rich said. “Our annual art exhibit is always an anticipated addition to the gardens, and it attracts thousands of visitors each year.”
The decorative turtles will be on display at Airlie Gardens from July through December 2023.
This is the 11th annual art exhibit at the gardens; last year the theme was owls. To apply or learn more, visit the site.
