WILMINGTON — Jerry Wayne Stokley Sr., 78, died Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born July 9, 1938, in Wilmington, N.C., to the late Walter Stokley and Bertha Shipman Stokley.
Jerry was a sports enthusiast with a passion for baseball and the Carolina Tarheels. He played on the 1956 Hanover Wildcats, winning the state championship. Jerry enjoyed guitars and country music, but his main love was his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his two siblings, brother, Walter Marshall Stokley Jr., and sister, Barbara Stokley Mallory Kennedy.
He is survived by his wife, Pinky Stokley; son, Jay Stokley, and his wife, Dionne; three grandsons, Jake, Dylan and Colt; sister, Gloria Stokley Phillips, all of Wilmington. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Andrews Valley Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at Andrews Valley Chapel with Pastor Dennis Hufham officiating. Burial will take place in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
