BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Two talented teachers from Brunswick County Schools left their mark during the recent conference of the North Carolina Council for the Social Studies (NCCSS).
Ms. Tara Cumbee, fourth grade teacher at Union Elementary School was named Social Studies Teacher of the Year.
As the NCCSS winner of the 2017 Social Studies Teacher of the Year, Ms. Cumbee was presented an award check for $500 at the annual state-wide social studies conference luncheon. Additionally, she was asked to join the NCCSS executive board as an honorary member for the 2017-2018 school year. She will have the opportunity to work with the board at the state level to be the voice for social studies educators.
At the same conference Ms. Paige Garza, social studies teacher at South Brunswick High School was elected President Elect of the North Carolina Council for the Social Studies (NCCSS). Ms. Garza will serve a total of six years: two years as president elect, two as president, and then two as past president (adviser).
