WILMINGTON- A trio of UNCW student-athletes – senior guard Amber Reeves, junior center Rebekah Banks and redshirt junior forward Jenny DeGraaf – has been named to the 2016-17 Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Basketball All-Academic Team.
Reeves, a three-time selection to the All-Academic Team, is a Biology major with a 3.907 grade point average. The Marietta, Ga., native has started 16-of-29 games and scored a season-high 11 points in the Seahawks’ Jan. 27 win over Towson, including the game-winning three-pointer with 1.5 seconds remaining. She has appeared in 121 career games, which ranks fifth in program history.
Banks, who earns her second straight All-Academic nod, boasts an impressive 3.954 grade point average with a double major of Business Administration and Economics. A product of Durham, N.C., she has appeared in all 29 games this season with 23 starts. Banks also ranks sixth in the CAA by grabbing 7.6 rebounds per game, while contributing 5.0 points per contest.
A Psychology major with a 3.683 grade point average, DeGraaf has appeared in all 29 games for the Seahawks with eight starts. The Springboro, Ohio, product is averaging 7.2 points per game in her first season at UNCW and notched a pair of 15-point efforts against Norfolk State and Northeastern. She is also averaging 4.7 rebounds per contest and posted a career-high 15 rebounds in UNCW’s Nov. 11 win over Norfolk State.
The Seahawks, the No. 7 seed in the CAA Women’s Basketball Championship, begin the postseason on Wednesday, March 8, in Harrisonburg, Va., with a first-round game against the College of Charleston at 2:30 p.m.
