WILMINGTON — Janet Rabunsky Evenson, 92, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice surrounded by her daughters. She was born April 28, 1924, to Samuel and Sarah Shain Rabunsky.

A native of Wilmington, she graduated from New Hanover High School in 1942. She served as a secretary from 1942 to 1954, including a time at Camp Davis.

Janet married Norman Evenson in 1952. The 56-year marriage ended upon Norman’s death in 2009. Additionally, she was preceded in death by four siblings, her parents, parents-in-law and a nephew.

Survivors include her daughters, Roselle Evenson Margolis (Bob) and Debra Evenson; grandsons, Gabriel and Michael; granddaughter, Rachel; five nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, and two sisters-in- law. She is also survived by her great-grand-pet, Lucy, who lived with her.

Dedicated to her family and friends, Janet lived a full life. She was an active member of B’nai Israel Synagogue Sisterhood and a Sunday school teacher for 23 years. Janet attended the NHRMC Marlene Sigler Cardiac Rehab Program and went on a bike at age 80 for the first time.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at B’nai Israel Synagogue, 26th and Chestnut streets. Burial will immediately follow in B’nai Israel Cemetery on 18th Street (Chestnut and Princess Place Drive). Light refreshments will be served at B’nai Israel Synagogue after services. Pallbearers will be Gabriel Margolis, Michael Evenson Blumenthal, George Karidis, David Reitblatt, Tom Davis and John Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Stein, Joe Reitblatt, Steve Rabunsky, Grenoldo Frazier, Dr. Reuben Silver and Jim Liberman.
