WILMINGTON — The Laney Bucs competed in the Eastern 4A Regional tournament this past weekend and placed 2nd as a team, qualifying eight wrestlers for the State Championships this coming weekend in Greensboro.
The Regional tournament is always a bittersweet time of year, as some kids accomplish the goal the set, and others fall painfully short. They all work hard and deserve the result they worked for, but as we know, life just doesn’t work that way sometimes. Regardless, we are very proud of the effort that all of the kids gave, and they will move forward from here.
The Bucs qualified eight wrestlers who will compete this coming weekend at the 4A State Championships in Greensboro: Freshman, Seth Thomas (113 lbs) and senior, Austin Nalley (145 lbs) placed 4th. Senior, Timothy Miller (106 lbs) placed 3rd. Seniors Kevin Saravia (120 lbs), Dallas Thompson (182 lbs), and Alex Willis (220 lbs) all placed 2nd.
Sophomore, Cael Willis (152 lbs) and senior, Austin Harrison (160 lbs), won the Regional Championship.
