Leonard J. ‘Brad’ Bradshaw, 83, remembered for his brand of humor and generosity

WILMINGTON — Leonard J. “Brad” Bradshaw, 83, died peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. All of his girls were present.

Born May 11, 1933, in Wilmington, he was the son of William Joseph Bradshaw and Mary Catherine Lotzbach Bradshaw.

He leaves his wife of 48 years, Helen Jean Bradshaw; son, Leonard J. Bradshaw Jr.; daughters, Helen Haggins and Catherine Bradshaw; and grandchildren, Nikolai and Miranda Dixon.

Mr. Bradshaw was a painter by trade. Having worked at several hotels and industrial plants in the Wilmington area, he retired from the Blockade Runner. O.J., as he was playfully known by, was admired by many of his coworkers and remained in close contact until the end. He will be remembered for his brand of humor and generosity, especially by the multitude of neighborhood kids needing a ride to and from the skating rink or mall.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
