LONGWOOD — Tencie Lea Benton Rider, 72, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at her home in Longwood.

She was a daughter of Kirby William Benton Sr. and Evelyn Milliken Benton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis A. Rider Sr.; and seven siblings.

She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

Surviving are her daughters, Loretta “Lorrie” Trogdon-Livingston, and her wife, Debra Trogdon-Livington, of Gastonia, N.C., Shelia Trodgon of Longwood, N.C., and Amy Trogdon of Gastonia, N.C.; brother, Marvin Benton of Greenville, N.C.; and sister, Lois Benton of Shallotte. She was the cherished grandmother of Christopher Trogdon, Douglas Baines Jr., and Emma Rodgers; and great-grandmother of Ethan Lewis Rogers and Landon Rider Williams. She is also survived by her partner in crime, niece, Louise Adams of Supply, N.C.

Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at the chapel of Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
