WILMINGTON — The people have spoken.  Jess James & Co. at 511 Castle Street has won the People’s Choice Award for the 2016 Holiday Window decorating contest conducted by the Downtown Business Alliance (DBA).

The award invited area residents and visitors to view Downtown shops and cast an online vote for their favorite display during the recent Historic Wilmington Holly Jolly Holiday Stroll.  Jess James & Co. received 37 percent of the vote and was awarded a $100 gift certificate to Art in Bloom Gallery.  Decades of Décor at 606 Castle Street placed second and received a $50 gift certificate to the Copper Penny Restaurant.

“This was a record year with 56 entries in the Window Decorating Contest,” said Amy Grant, the committee chairwoman and owner of Art in Bloom Gallery.  “There were so many great displays and this award is a wonderful way to involve and engage the community in the contest.”

The Window Decorating Contest also had local dignitaries serve as judges to select the winners for the juried portion of the competition.  The winner was Platypus & Gnome Restaurant at 9 South Front Street.

According to DBA President Terry Espy, most of the window displays will remain in place through the first of the year.

“For anyone needing to do some last minute shopping or interested in a fun and free reason to tour our wonderful Downtown and catch the Christmas spirit, I encourage you to visit all of the displays,” she said.

Although all of the judging is finished, a list of all of the businesses participating in the 2016 Window Decorating Contest is available for download.  Just visit www.hollyjollywilmington.com for a complete list of businesses and locations.
