WILMINGTON — Ms. Shirley Annette King, 78, peacefully passed surrounded by her family on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016.
Shirley was the daughter of Alice and Otis “Pas” King. Shirley was predeceased by her parents; sister, Mary Helen; and brother, Otis Alvin Jr.
She is survived by her sisters, Sandra Richard, Theresa Comer and Pricilla Francis; and brother, Danny Craig.
Shirley surrounded herself with the love of her family. She had many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and had a special attachment to her niece, Donna Powers, whom she loved dearly. Even the neighborhood children made her heart soar.
Shirley loved the Christmas season and everything about it; the lights on the outside of houses and Christmas trees could never be as bright as the light in Shirley’s heart. Her unique appreciation for music came shining through with Christmas carols. She loved all her children’s songs and had a special love for Gospel music.
Shirley found peace and comfort in the simplicity of life. She loved the outdoors, the sun, moon, stars and birds singing – especially with a cup of coffee, her day was made. There was so much to experience and learn from Shirley. Her child-like ways were inspirational in teaching all to become better human beings. Her purpose was to love and be loved.
The family wishes to thank from our hearts, Nicole Bravo, for being an awesome friend and adopted family member, and Lower Cape Fear Hospice and staff for an outstanding job in her final weeks.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at King Cemetery, Leland.
