WILMINGTON – The Harrelson Center is proud to announce the appointment of Meade Horton Van Pelt as new Executive Director. Meade succeeds Vicki Dull, Executive Director since 2010, who announced her retirement in November. Meade began at The Harrelson Center on Dec. 1, 2016.
Meade comes to us after 21 years at Pitney Bowes, Inc. and is involved in the community through her church, Gregory Elementary PTA, The Ministering Circle, the Presbyterian Counseling Center board and much more. Meade holds a BA in Mass Communication/Media Studies from UNC Chapel Hill and a MBA Business Administration and Management from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Meade and her husband, Joel Van Pelt, have two children, Max, age 7 and Josie, 9 months old.
“Meade brings to the table a passion and heart for people that will serve us well as Executive Director for the Harrelson Center. I am excited that under Meade’s leadership, we will continue to thrive in the mission of addressing the unmet needs in our communities,” stated Austin Aley, Harrelson Center Board President.
About the Harrelson Center
The Jo Ann Carter Harrelson Center is a nonprofit center that provides services and a place of collaboration for organizations to serve people in need. It is a place where needs are met, dreams are fostered and hope abounds.
The Center provides its nonprofit partners social and educational opportunities, marketing and promotions, volunteer recruitment and a place of collaboration for them to help those in need in our community. The Center supports its partners with below-market rental rates that cover all utilities, parking and security. This synergistic environment allows all the nonprofits to operate more efficiently and better utilize their funding. Currently, The Harrelson Center has 12 nonprofit partners.
The Harrelson Center also runs The Help Hub program which helps meet the emergency needs of individuals referred by the Center’s partner organizations and local churches. These needs are often critical including emergency shelter, utility bills, transportation and medical bills. The Help Hub also connects people with Harrelson Center partners and additional community resources.
