WILMINGTON — Police have identified a 76-year-old man who died during a wreck near Mayfaire on Tuesday.

Kenneth Eason, of Wilmington, suffered from a medical issue and passed out behind the wheel of his pick-up truck while driving in the 300 block of Military Cutoff Road at about 12 p.m. Tuesday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.

His vehicle then crossed into the on-coming traffic, where Eason struck the side of a passenger car driven by a 36-year-old woman. The vehicles overturned and landed in a ditch. Crews closed Military Cutoff Road between Town Center Drive and Station Road while they worked the wreck scene.

Eason passed away at the scene of the wreck due to his medical condition, according to police. A passenger in Eason’s truck and the 36-year-old woman driving the other vehicle were transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Eason’s passenger and the woman suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

“No charges are anticipated to the filed in the incident,” Lindsay said.
