WILMINGTON — A man and teenage girl have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting that killed 24-year-old Catherine Ruth Ballard in front of Independence Mall on Saturday.
According to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay, U.S. Marshals arrested 19-year-old Traneta Shanaia Campbell and 26-year-old Darius Nelson at about 8:15 p.m. Monday. The two suspects were found in a shed behind a home in the 2400 block of Monroe Street and were taken into custody without incident.
The two face felony charges in a shooting in the parking lot of the main entrance to Independence Mall on Saturday afternoon. Ballard was injured in that shooting and later died at the hospital.
On Monday, Wilmington police announced Campbell was wanted on charge of murder in connection with the case. Wilmington police, New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies and NHCO Probation and Parole officers assisted in Campbell and Nelson’s apprehension, Lindsay said.
