WILMINGTON — Wilmington police are searching for a teen in connection with a Saturday afternoon shooting that killed 24-year-old Catherine Ruth Ballard in front of Independence Mall.
Traneta Shanaia Campbell, 19, of Wilmington, is wanted on charge of first-degree murder, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
The shooting took place in the parking lot near the main entrance of Independence Mall, at 3500 Oleander Drive, at about 1:20 p.m. on Saturday.
Additional charges may be pending in the case, Lindsay said. Campbell is a black female, who is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds. She has short dark hair and brown eyes. She also has a tattoo of “Lawahna” on her right arm and may have a ring through her septum.
