WILMINGTON — Wilmington police are investigating a daytime shooting that injured a woman.

Officers responded to the shooting near the intersection of South 17th Street and Wrightsville Avenue just before 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.

A caller reported gunshots and possibly hearing a scream, Lindsay said. ShotSpotter, the city’s gunfire detection system, also indicated multiple shots in the area.

When EMS and authorities arrived on scene, they found a woman suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment. Her condition is unknown at this time, Lindsay said.
