WILMINGTON — Glover Ray Stanford, 69, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Ray was born in High Point, N.C., the son of the late Clarence Ray and Gwendolyn Templeton Stanford. He was formerly employed with Bell South Telephone Company and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He was a longtime member of Ogden-New Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Don Graves.

Surviving are his son, Doug Stanford, and special friend, Ann Carroll, of Wilmington; close friends, Gene and Debbie Wheat of Wilmington; sisters, D. Suellen White, and her husband, Byron, of Deland, Fla., Cynthia S. Parker, and her husband, Skip, of Wilmington, Donna G. Walton, and her husband, Trey, of Willow Springs, and Melody G. Graves and April D. Graves of Burlington.

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, March 2, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel with Bishop Lundy Logue officiating. A reception will follow the service.
