HAMPSTEAD — Meyer L. Melman, 99, became one with God Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017. He was born in Pittsburgh, Penn., Aug. 28, 1917, to the late Isadore Melman and Leah Isenberg Melman.

His greatest accomplishment was living life, giving what he could, and having gratitude for all things. He had many loves: his family, plants, long walks in the sun, and a good game of bowling; and, oh boy, a good, ripe melon. He was able to see his great grandson Austin’s beginning of life. He lived life right up until the end. He was a happy person who was surrounded by so many wonderful people. He was a part of the greatest generation. He will surely be missed, but always with us and never forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his father, Isadore Melman; mother, Leah Melman; brothers, Morris Melman, Dave Melman and Tut Melman; sisters, Sara Rudick and Pearl Rudick; and granddaughter, Jennifer Fiumara.

He is survived by daughter, Sharon Sprague; son, Clifford Sprague; daughter, Linda Melman;  granddaughters, Alicia Hawley and Audrey Sprague; grandson, Adam Hawley; and great-grandson, Austin Hawley.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, at Faith Harbor United Methodist Church, 14201 NC-50, Surf City, NC 28445. Pastor Duke will be officiating.
