BRUNSWICK COUNTY — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is excited to announce the new Deputy Cadet Program. The BCSO Deputy Cadet Program aims to give rising high school seniors the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of what it takes to become a law enforcement officer.
Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, the program will serve as a way to create positive relationships between law enforcement officers and today’s young adults.
The program is offered to rising seniors at WBHS, SBHS and NBHS. The four week class will be held Monday through Friday, beginning July 10 and running through Aug. 4. Generally, the hours will be from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., but may be subject to change.

Qualified students must attend one of the aforementioned participating high schools and must have completed the 11th grade with a GPA of 2.0 or above. Students must not have any prior or outstanding misdemeanor or felony charges and/or convictions.
Use of controlled substances (without a prescription), alcohol, tobacco products, or any other illegal substance will not be tolerated and are grounds for immediate disqualification from applying for the program.
Two letters of recommendation must accompany the application, one personal (a non-relative) and one professional.
Interested students should contact their high school SRO for additional information and to obtain the application.
This is a very exciting program and one that we hope will be extremely successful. We would love to see this program plant a seed some of these cadets and encourage them to pursue a career in law enforcement. Perhaps one day some will proudly serve the citizens of Brunswick County as a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office.
