BOILING SPRING LAKES — Kenneth Ray McKeithan, 75, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Kenneth graduated from New Hanover High School in 1960 and joined the U.S. Army, serving for four years. He worked at the Downtown Belk-Beery and earned his bachelor’s degree from UNC-Wilmington. He then went on to work for General Electric for 26 years. Moving often in this career, he and his family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio; Atlanta, Georgia; Danville, Illinois; and Coshocton, Ohio. He and his wife returned to North Carolina after his retirement and settled in Boiling Spring Lakes.

Ken enjoyed golfing and completing the daily crossword puzzle in the local newspaper. He was a loyal follower of UNC basketball and Washington Redskins football. Everyone knew that Ken would debate any topic, even if he didn’t have all the facts, and it provided everyone with a good chuckle. His family will miss seeing him fall asleep in his recliner.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, E. Elton McKeithan and M. Loraine McLamb.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Carolyn S. McKeithan; three children, Darryl F. Bennett, Tracy M. Rabon and Melissa R. Haugen, and her spouse, Jeffrey A. Haugen; and one grandchild, Lauren R. Haugen.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SOAR, 3376 St. Charles Place SE, Southport, NC 28461.
