SOUTHPORT — Judith Anne “Judy” Brodie, 71, formerly of Medford, Mass., passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2017.

She leaves behind beloved husband, Terrence “Tiny” Brodie; daughter, Suzanne Vacirca, and her spouse, Frank; granddaughter, Gabriella Rose of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; brothers, George F. Leydon Jr., Dennis P. Leydon, and Joseph T. Leydon, and his wife, Maureen; sister, Mary Connor, and her husband, Bob; sister-in-law, Claire Leydon; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, George and Josephine Leydon; and brother, John (Jack) Leydon.

Judy worked as a manager at Verizon for many years. She was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers. Her second career at Ward’s Gifts of Burlington, Mass., was more a passion than a job for her, as she so enjoyed helping her customers choose the perfect gift for the important events in their lives.

Judy was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, niece, aunt and friend. She was especially close to her granddaughter, Ella, whom she cared for as an infant and toddler during her own daughter’s illness.

Many were unaware that Judy was suffering quietly from Pulmonary Fibrosis for the last several years, as she always put others first. Her kindness and generosity touched many lives. Judy will be missed by all.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the medical staff at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, who encircled Judy and her family with comfort and dignity during her last days.

A celebration of life service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Southport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio St., Suite 500, Chicago, IL 60611.
