One man dead, another injured in early-morning shooting on Ninth Street in Wilmington is your source for free news and information in the Wilmington area.

 WILMINGTON — Police are investigating an early-morning shooting that killed one man and injured another.

Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of South Ninth Street for a report of shots fired at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Wilmington  Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay. When they arrived at the scene, police found two males who had suffered gunshot wounds.

Both men were taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center via EMS to be treated for their injuries. Montreal Holmes, 28, of Wilmington, was pronounced dead on arrival. The other 34-year-old male victim was treated for serious injuries, that are not considered to be life-threatening.

“There was a large crowd at the scene, however few leads have been gathered,” Lindsay said of the ongoing homicide investigation.
