WILMINGTON — Shelby Jean Coleman Johnson, 76, of Wilmington, N.C., passed away on Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.
She was born in Wilmington on July 26, 1940, daughter of the late Donald Lenden Coleman and Ethel Blanton Coleman.
Since 1972, Mrs. Johnson, along with her husband, Ralph, have owned and operated Cardinal Lanes Beach Bowl. She was an avid gardener and loved her plants and cats. A big Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson fan, she loved their music and had attended some of their concerts.
She devoted most of her time and attention to loving her sons who were such a large part of her life. She was one who always saw the good in people. Mrs. Johnson was a former member of Little Chapel on the Boardwalk and more recently attended Ogden Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Frederick Johnson (celebrating their 50th anniversary on Dec. 30, 2016); sons, Edward Nicholas Johnson and wife Holly Majewski Johnson, and Frederick Lenden Johnson; a brother, Harry Coleman and wife Rosemary; and cousins, Georgia Bernice Bennett and Jimmy Evans.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at Ogden Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Justice officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
