WILMINGTON — William Worth “Bill” Roberts Jr., 88, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Bill was born on Aug. 27, 1928, in Clifton, N.J., son of the late William Worth Roberts Sr. and Helen Finkel Roberts.

Bill served his country in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He received his bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson College in Rutherford, N.J., and his master’s degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. He retired from The Okonite Company after 35 years.

Bill was a member of the Wilmington Board of Adjustment Committee for six years and briefly served as chairman. He was also a member of the Wilmington Golf Course Advisory Committee for six years and served as chairman.

Bill was an avid golfer and a two-time gold medalist in the senior tournaments.

He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 29 years, Genevieve “Jennie” Stanich Roberts; son, William W. “Bill” Roberts III of Wayne, N.J.; daughter, Lynda Darpino (Christopher) of Wayne, N.J.; stepson, Mark Todd (Jane) of Blacksburg, Va.; stepdaughter, Kathleen Todd of Oxford, N.J.; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
