UPDATE: Gas leak repaired, Castle Hayne Road open to traffic

The gas leak in the 1200 block of Castle Hayne Road has been repaired. The area is open to traffic. No injuries were reported.


CASTLE HAYNE — A portion of Castle Hayne Road has been closed as multiple emergency personnel are respond to a gas leak at Corbett Packing Company.

Crews responded to the case leak business located in the 1200 block of Castle Hayne Road in Wilmington on Wednesday afternoon, according to a notice from the Wilmington Fire Department Assistant Chief Sammy Flowers. Castle Hayne Road is closed to traffic at this time between McRae Street to the intersection of Castle Hayne Road and Division Drive, near the new WAVE Facility.

Piedmont Natural Gas has been notified of the leak, Flowers said. A few civilians have been evacuation to other locations outside the immediate hazard zone. No injuries to civilians or emergency personnel have been reported at this time.

Crews responding include the Wilmington Fire Department, New Hanover County Fire and Rescue, New Hanover Regional Medical Center EMS, and the Wilmington Police Department.
