Thomas E. Oliphant, 85, retired from Babcock & Wilcox after 33 years’ service

WILMINGTON — Thomas E. Oliphant, 85, passed away on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, after an extended illness.

Mr. Oliphant was born in Wilmington on Feb. 15, 1931, to Sara Stokley and James Oliphant. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from Babcock & Wilcox after 33 years of service.

Tommy is survived by his daughter, Vera Higgins (Mickey); grandsons, Mick and Jamie Higgins; three great-grandchildren, Carly, Heath and Hayden, all of Wilmington; two sisters, Barbara Ann Blake and Joyce Faye Hicks; and a special cousin, Mary S. Fussell.

The family will honor Mr. Oliphant with a private remembrance at a later date.

We wish to thank the nurses of Continuum Care and the staff of Northchase Rehabilitation Center for the kindness and attention shared with Mr. Oliphant during his time in their excellent care.

Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be made to a Shriners Hospital of individual choice.
