Police say they have a suspect vehicle in fatal hit and run Friday

WILMINGTON — Wilmington Police have identified the female who was killed in an early morning hit and run on Shipyard Boulevard as 24-year-old, April Marie Daugherty of Wilmington.

Daugherty  died from her injuries after she was hit by a car around 2 z.m. Friday morning on Shipyard Boulveard. It is believed she had been riding a bicycle at the time. 

No arrests have been made. Wilmington Police, however, have identified a suspect vehicle and are asking anyone with information to call 910-343-3609, or use Text-a-Tip. Text to CRIMES; start your message with Tip708, then type your information.

Police and EMS responded to the scene in the 1600 block on Shipyard Boulevard after receiving a 911 call just after 2 a.m. There they found Daugherty lying in the middle of road, near a damaged bicycle, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.

She was transferred to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where she died.

No other details have been released at this time.
