WILMINGTON — After two years of week-in-week-out toil in a spare-bedroom-turned-production studio, Wilmington-based “My Fantasy Wife” podcast has celebrated its 100th episode, audience growth and more.

The sports-meets-comedy-meets-marriage podcast was born by accident.

“My original podcast idea was to interview people with ‘normal’ jobs but unusual hobbies,” founder and co-host Blaire Postman explains. “One of my first guests was my husband, who used to be one of the 3 largest vintage cookie jar collectors in the country. We started bickering about the time he spends on fantasy sports leagues and our sound engineer, comedian Louis Bishop, started laughing and said THAT needed to be the podcast.”

Each week this husband, wife and their comedian friends discuss sports, fantasy leagues and their impact on pop culture and relationships.

Postman’s role evolved into lead host, researcher, game designer and asker of “why?” regarding all things sports. Haymes is the sport stat expert, but will also throw a wrench into the proceedings for a good pun. The Hot Topics and Social Media Maven role has been filled for the last 18 months by Port City’s Top Comic 2016 and sports fan, Drew Harrison. And the in-studio team is rounded out by comedian, sound engineer, and Man About Town, former radio personality, Louis Bishop.

2016 has been a time of great growth in listenership for MFW. Each episode now includes well-known comedian guests discussing whatever their sports (or sports-ish) obsessions might be and playing a game created by MFW, often based on those interests.

Guests have included Rory Scovel, Aparna Nancherla, Seaton Smith, Erin Jackson, Quincy Jones, and many more. Postman was a Finalist in the Arts Category in the 2016 Wilma Magazine Women to Watch Awards, in part due to her podcast work.

Additionally, two new roles were added: comedian and local TV personality, Wills Maxwell, serves as the call-in ombudsman and also subs in-studio; and lead contributor, Raleigh comedian, Joe Perrow, helps develop hot topics and game ideas, and is also the official Game of Thrones fantasy league expert.

2017 is also off to a great start.  In addition to amazing guests and fantasy league action, MFW will have a live audience taping during the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival in Chapel Hill in February.
