SHALLOTTE — Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) continues to make an imprint across southeastern North Carolina and West Brunswick High School has joined forces to host a coaches’ clinic featuring some of the top football minds from near and far on Saturday, Jan. 21.

The event, which will be held from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., is free of charge. It includes breakfast, lunch and breakout sessions. All high school, middle school and recreation football coaches are invited.

“We are intentionally focusing on coaches’ ministry in addition to the kids,” said Matt Treppel, FCA Southeastern North Carolina Regional Director. “Coaches are incredibly influential. We are striving to have a specific ministry in our region and field rep to work in investing in our coaches.”

Among those expected to speak are former longtime Hoggard Football Coach Scott Braswell, retired Coach Yogi Hickman, current five-time state champion Wallace-Rose Hill Coach Joey Price and former N.C. State All-American Bill Yoest. They will address a variety of topics from an x’s and o’s standpoint to practice organization.

Braswell led Hoggard for 18 seasons before retiring leading into the 2016 season. Price is coming off another state championship run with the Bulldogs. Britt Leggett, a former All-American at Coastal Carolina University will also be in attendance.

Yoest has a long story of ups and downs in his life. He is one of eight former players to have their jerseys retired at N.C. State. A Pittsburgh native, Yoest was a consensus All-American guard, lettered for the Wolfpack from 1970-73 and recipient of the 1973 Jacobs Blocking Trophy. His No. 63 was retired at halftime of the North Carolina game, Sept. 27, 2003.
