WILMINGTON — John Alan Whitt, M.D., 58, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017. He was born in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 21, 1958, to Jack Whitt and Isabel Scattergood Whitt.
John was a graduate of East Carolina School of Medicine. He practiced as a psychiatrist in Silva, N.C., and the western part of North Carolina. He loved nature and all animals. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his leisure time. John was a human encyclopedia. He had a dry sense of humor, and shared it with everyone.
John is survived by one son, Patrick Alan Whitt; one daughter, Maggie Whitt Mazurek; grandson, Liam Mazurek; love and best friend, Helen Coleman; brothers, Jack, Jim and Mike; and sisters, Kathy, Roxie and Jenny; and his dog, “Roscoe.”
John and Helen were only together for a short time, but had a relationship that others dream about. They had a wonderful, deep and beautiful relationship.
A special family gathering to remember John will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, John and Helen’s home, 216 N. 5th Ave., Wilmington. All friends are invited to come and remember John.
