Jeanne Wooten Leonard, 87, rescued hundreds of animals

WILMINGTON — Jeanne Wooten Leonard, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017. She was born in McCormick, S.C., to William Hoyt Wooten and Mozelle Bradshaw Wooten. Ms. Leonard was an avid animal lover who rescued hundreds of animals.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Patricia W. Shoaf and Judith W. Dilzer.

She is survived by her son, Luther “Chip” Leonard Jr. of Wilmington; daughter, Babs Murrell of Castle Hayne; grandchildren, Nicki, Brandon and Missi; nephews, Miki, Brad and Mike; and niece, Tara.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Billy Batten officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Hanover Humane Society.
