Robert Charles “Bob” Mahnken, 84, enjoyed singing in the Huntington Barbershop is your source for free news and information in the Wilmington area.

HAMPSTEAD — Robert Charles “Bob” Mahnken, 84, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017. He was born on March 13, 1932, in Queens, N.Y., to Frederick and Martha Mahnken.

After graduating high school, Bob served in the U.S. Naval Reserve at Floyd Bennett Field, and was employed by Joshua F. Bailey Co. Inc. for most of his professional career.

He married his wife, Jutta Hinrichsen, in 1962 and lived in East Northport, N.Y., where they raised their two daughters. Bob enjoyed singing in the Huntington Barbershop, playing clarinet and then bass drum in The Foehrer Musik Freunde, and playing golf and tennis at Nissequogue Country Club, where he was a member. In 1991, they retired to Hampstead and enjoyed living at Olde Pointe, where Bob continued to enjoy golf, tennis and playing in a German band.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jutta Mahnken; daughters, Paula, and her husband, Reinhard, and Lora; grandchildren, Clayton, Isabel, Juliana, Sarah, Robby and Kimberly; brother, Arthur Mahnken; and sister-in-law, Thyra Wohld.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Lutheran Church of Reconciliation, 7500 Market St., Wilmington. A reception will immediately follow at the church.
