Wayne Stanley Barr, 80, former Civietown fire chief

SHALLOTTE — Wayne Stanley Barr, 80, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Nov. 2, 1936, the son of the late Garrett Barr and Anne Cerami Barr. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Angelina Barr.

Mr. Barr worked with Metro North Railway System as an electrician for 40 years until his retirement. His love was being a firemen and was the Fire Chief of Mahopac, N.Y., and a trainer for the Brewster Fire Department in New York. He was a fire instructor of New York State. After retiring, he moved to Brunswick County and became the Civietown fire chief.

Surviving are two daughters, Deb Kirk, and her fiancé, Dave Coniber, of Woodbridge, Va., and Diana Barr of Catskill, N.Y.; sister, Judy Antico, and her husband, Peter, of Falls Church, Va.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Doughton, and her husband, David, Patrick Kirk and Carissa Barr; one great-grandchild, Chase Doughton; a special pet “Dusty.”

A celebration of Mr. Barr’s life will be held at a later date in Mahopac, N.Y.
