WILMINGTON — A 26-year-old man was shot in the leg Wednesday night.
Police were called to a “ShotSpotter” alert in the 1000 block of North Fifth Avenue just after 9 p.m., according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a 26-year-old black male on Browns Alley leaning against a vehicle with a gunshot wound to his leg.
The victim reported he was walking on Nixon Street when multiple suspects on a porch of a home on Fifth Avenue approached him, Lindsay said. A black male suspect, described as having dreadlocks and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, asked what he was doing in the area and then began firing shots.
The victim stated he was just passing through the area. He began running when he heard the first shot. A second shot struck the victim in the leg just above the knee.
EMS took the victim to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment of an injury that was not considered life-threating.
Detectives are still working the case, Lindsay said. The investigation is ongoing.
