Port City Daily highlights young athletes competing in a variety of sports to help showcase the talented youth across the Wilmington area. Each week, one youngster will be introduced to the local community for his or her efforts on and off the field, including some of his or her favorite things to do outside of sports and a list of what makes them who they area.
This week our youth spotlight focuses on 5-year old Ashtin Gerberg. You might know Ashtin from his recent push to national fame thanks a viral YouTube video featuring him and his dad simulating a big league game in front of their Leland home.
His likeness to New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard eventually led to Gerberg throwing out the ceremonial first-pitch at Citi Field in New York City prior to a Mets game.
Ashtin is an avid baseball fan and beyond his years when it comes to his skill set on the ball field.
