WILMINGTON — Dorothy Fullwood Merritt, 92, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016.

She was born April 9, 1924, in Rocky Mount, N.C., to the late Florence Kermon Fullwood and Charles R. Fullwood.

Dorothy worked for Winn Dixie for 35 years. She taught Sunday school for 37 years at Fifth Avenue Methodist Church. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church for several years and most recently attended Grace United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred H. Merritt Sr.; great-granddaughter, Julia Renee Merritt; and several brothers.

Survivors include her son, Fred H. Merritt Jr., and his wife, Margaret Long Merritt, of Wilmington; grandson, James Robert Merritt, and his wife, Jennifer Merritt; and brother, Rodney Fullwood of Jacksonville, Fla.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Andrews Valley Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
