Judy Kelly Sawyer, 73, artistic soul who enjoyed all things beautiful

WILMINGTON — Judy Kelly Sawyer, 73, went to be with the Lord Friday, Dec. 16, 2016.

Judy was born April, 13, 1943, in Bladen County, N.C., the daughter of the late Sinclair Kelly and Hattie Russ Kelly. Judy had an artistic soul and enjoyed all things beautiful. She loved to travel and made friends for life wherever she went. She was a loyal and devoted friend who doted on her grandchildren.

Judy worked at the UNCW book store, the New Hanover Board of Elections, and volunteered at New Hanover County schools. She was a longtime member of Pine Valley United Methodist Church, where she volunteered in the kitchen. She also volunteered at Good Shepherd and the domestic violence shelter.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Louis Henry Sawyer Sr.; son, Louis Henry Sawyer Jr. (Erin) of Carolina Beach; daughter, Jennifer Sawyer Brunson (Bobby) of Wilmington; sisters, Carol Vereen (Leo), Janice Corbett and Rita Benjey; grandchildren, Dylan, Casey, Cassidy, Elle, Aspen, Ireland and Bryce; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Judith Louise Sawyer; sister, Dorothy Reher, and brother, Bobby Kelly.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Pine Valley United Methodist Church, Wilmington, N.C. Funeral services will follow at at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Trish Archer and the Rev. Dr. Tim Reeves officiating. Burial will follow the service in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
