Marcia McGugan, 65, adventurer at heart who loved to surf

WILMINGTON — Marcia McGugan, 65, passed away on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016.

She was born in Fayetteville, N.C., on Dec. 19, 1950, to the late Willa and Marcus McGugan of Wilmington, N.C.

Marcia was an avid surfer for years at Wrightsville Beach, N.C.; and a professional student who graduated from New Hanover High School in 1968. She had attended two years of college at the age of 16. She was an adventurer at heart and traveled all over the country before the age of 21.

She was preceded in death by her father, Layton Marcus McGugan; mother, Willa Catherine Cox McGugan; and son, Christopher Lee Satterfield.

She is survived by her sister, Teresa Lynn McGugan Dobson; aunt, Hazel McGugan of Durham, N.C; aunt, Opal Moore of Sanford, N.C.; and an abundant number of cousins.
