WILMINGTON — Police are investigating a shooting on Metting Road that killed 37-year-old Eric Huff last night. A second male victim arrived at the hospital shortly after the shooting, but police are still investigating to see if the two shooting victims are related to the same case.

Wilmington police responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 3600 block of Metting Road at about 8:25 p.m. Monday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Linda Rawley.

Arriving officers located Huff was found shot multiple times at the scene. He was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery. Rawley said he died shortly after surgery Monday night.

About 15 to 20 minutes after the shooting, another gunshot victim showed up at the hospital, but Rawley said it is still unclear if the victim is related to the shooting on Metting Road.

“We’re still investigating because we just don’t know what happened,” Rawley said.

The 23-year-old male victim suffered a gunshot wound and remains at the hospital in critical condition Tuesday morning.

The investigation is ongoing. Police are seeking information from the public to help with the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wilmington Police Department at 910-341-4683 or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES. Start your message with Tip708, then type your tip.
