WILMINGTON — Bonita Effie “Bonnie” Kobbins, 81, passed away peacefully at New Hanover Regional Medical Center on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016. She is forever reunited with her late husband of 35 years, Carl T. Kobbins Jr.
Bonnie was born on March 21, 1935, in Sidney, Neb., to the late Harry and Lillian Hazlitt. Bonnie is survived by her sisters, Gladys Belford (Ray) and Vickie Mapel; and brother, Robert Hazlitt (Ann); daughters, Karen Litcher (Ronald) and Cynthia Bolz; son, William Bolz (Donna); stepdaughter, Christine Derks; stepson, Kevin Kobbins (Cindy); and 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Hazlitt, Richard Hazlitt and Rodney Hazlitt; and stepdaughter, Sherry Stremlow.
Bonnie had an adventurous spirit, always willing to try new experiences, which she approached with enthusiasm. She was caring and generous, there with comfort and aid in an hour of need. A true and faithful Nebraska Cornhusker fan, and red was her favorite color. She loved having her family and friends around and enjoyed caring for and entertaining them.
Bonnie and Carl loved to travel, enjoying many memorable trips. In her professional life as an accountant, she built and managed a tax and accounting firm, BKL Business Services, until she retired. Some of the family’s most cherished memories of her are her extensive Garfield collection, her love of her pets, red roses, white carpet, poker parties and the joy she showed for life.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at Andrew’s Mortuary, Market Street Chapel, 1617 Market St., Wilmington, NC.
