WILMINGTON — Mary Carolyn Armstrong Covil, affectionately known as GrandMary, 92, of Wilmington, N.C., took her final journey home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday evening, Nov. 24, 2016. Born March 17, 1924, in Duplin County, N.C., she was the daughter of Robert William Armstrong Sr. and Mattie Harrell Armstrong.
In addition to her parents, she is reunited with her husband, William Clifford Covil; and three brothers, Robert William Armstrong Jr., Richard Harrell Armstrong and William Clark Armstrong; and her eldest son, David Frederick Covil.
Mary is survived by her youngest son, Jerry Allan Covil, and his wife, Wanda, of Castle Hayne; her grandchildren, Michelle Lynne Covil Lewis, and husband, Ricky, and Kimberly Gwynn Cramer; great-grandchildren, Porter Allan Cramer and Ryker Covil Avent; and special sisters-in-law, Ernestine Carrow Armstrong of Atlanta, Ga., and Inez Johnson Covil of Wilmington, N.C.; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary was a member of Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she actively served her Lord for over 65 years. She took pride in ensuring her home was welcoming and enjoyed providing delicious culinary creations. Mary’s wonderful sense of humor provides beautiful memories filled with laughter for friends and loved ones.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will immediately follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
