WILMINGTON — William Daniel Armstrong, 70, of Wilmington, N.C., passed away unexpectedly at his home on Nov. 23, 2016.
Dan was born Oct. 4, 1946, in Halifax County, N.C. He attended Aurelian Springs High School and went on to earn a BS Degree in Pulp and Paper Science at North Carolina State University. He worked as an engineer for 37 years in Riegelwood for Riegel, Federal, and International Paper Companies.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Donna Bunting Armstrong; his twin sons, Joshua Daniel and Christopher Lucas Armstrong; his sister, Jean Armstrong Haskins; his brother-in-law and wife Wayne C. and Betty Gayle Bunting; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his father and mother, William Ishmael and Lola Mae Snipes Armstrong; and his brother, Robert Lee Armstrong.
Dan was known as a loving father and husband. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with family. At home, he enjoyed birdwatching, and walking the family dog, Roxy. He was a great cook and handy around the house. Dan enjoyed fishing, kayaking, playing cornhole, and golfing. He was an avid fan of the NC State Wolfpack and also attended many local sporting events. Dan was an active member of First Baptist Church and volunteered at Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Wilmington, NC, or the NC State Pulp and Paper Foundation.
There will be a visitation for family and friends on Sunday, Nov. 27, beginning at 2 p.m., followed by a Memorial and Celebration of Life at 3 p.m. located at First Baptist Church, 411 Market St., Wilmington, NC 28401.
