William “Bill” Werner, 73, worked at the Calabash Fire Department

CAROLINA SHORES — William Werner, 73, of Carolina Shores, passed away suddenly on Nov. 18, 2016. Bill was born in 1943 in Passaic, N.J., to Adel and William Werner. He graduated high school in Lodi, N.J., and served his country by joining the Army shortly after graduation serving most of his three-year hitch at Fort Bragg, N.C. He married Beverly, whom he met in high school in 1965, and they celebrated their 50th anniversary last year.

After many years of employment with the Auto Rental Industry, Bill decided to change careers. Having enjoyed volunteering with the local EMS Service and fire department. He trained and worked as a paramedic in New Jersey for over 25 years. A proud member of the Wallington N.J. Fire Department, Bill rose through the ranks and served as its chief for three years.

Bill and Beverly moved to Carolina Shores, N.C., in 2012. Bill joined the Calabash Fire Department and served proudly despite losing a leg to the complications of diabetes several years ago. He also volunteered with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 26, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Ocean Isle Beach, where he was an active member and served on the church council. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Services will be conducted in New Jersey at a later date.
